The Crimson Woman

Standard

The crimson woman has fallen

And no one saw

She died alone

She cried out

But no one heard

The silence was saturated with people crying wolf

Distracted by their fortune

While children starved

There wasn’t space

There wasn’t time

No present

No presence

Just blind pride

So her cries flew on the wind

She fell amidst many

But none saw her demise

She had fire in her eyes until she drew her last breath

And the flames evaporated her tears

Before they reached the bloodstained earth beneath her face

Her body was warm from the steam

It rose off her

Like chanting incense

Silently sending incantations into the air

Telling tales that no one wanted to hear

Mirroring reflections that no one wanted to see

Of sorrow

And of love

She mourned alone

Unable to fathom

It carried her away

She ran out of cries

She ran out of tries

She stopped running altogether

Numb and silent

She lost her mind

And the hungry ravens ate the crumbs that could have led her home.
